Boy in critical condition after colliding with pickup truck
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A flashlight shined on a young boy's bicycle. It was in the street after the boy collided with a pickup truck, police said.
"He actually hit the side of the vehicle and that caused him to go under the wheel of the vehicle," David Rooney, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, said.
Rooney said the 6-year-old boy turns 7 in just a few days. He was playing hide-and-seek with friends inside the apartment complex when the accident happened.
"We were playing with our bikes and we were riding around," friend Girelle Patterson said.
Witnesses said the boy rode into the street. It's what neighbors said happens often at the complex on Lake Mead near Torrey Pines.
"A lot of kids on bikes and skateboards -- they dart into the street," neighbor Tom Martinet said.
Police said the driver wasn't speeding and he didn't know how badly the child was injured.
"It's just a tragedy," Rooney said.
It's a reminder to parents to teach their kids to watch out while they play.
Police said the driver won't face charges.
