Las Vegas, NV (KNTV) -- The sister of a murder victim, in a case dating back three decades, got her first look at the 65-year-old ex-con who's now facing charges.

Connie Brainbridge emerged from a brief court hearing Friday, saying she wished she could ask Nathan Burkett about the last words of her sister, Barbara Ann Cox.

She said her mother had lost hope that police would find the killer, but now plans to travel to Las Vegas from Arkansas to be in court for the trial.

Brainbridge also said she's like to see Burkett say sorry for what she believes he did to her sister.

An evidence hearing was set for Dec. 7.

Burkett is charged in the rape and murders of Cox in 1978, and Tina Gayle Mitchell in 1994.
