Trial delayed again for ex-doc in Vegas hep C case
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Attorneys for a former Las Vegas physician-clinic owner blamed in a 2007 hepatitis C outbreak won another delay in his state court trial on charges including murder, racketeering and criminal neglect.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Clark County District Court Judge Valerie Adair said she felt "forced" to push back an Oct. 22 trial date for Dipak Desai.
The judge set trial for April 22 after defense lawyers argued they were still reviewing a massive amount of evidence in the case.
But Adair also consolidated the case with a second-degree murder case filed after death in April of a 77-year-old man who authorities say became infected with incurable hepatitis C during a clinic outpatient procedure.
Desai and two former clinic nurse-anesthetists have pleaded not guilty.
