Man found dead on shores of Lake Mead

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The body of a man was found washed up on the shores of Lake Mead on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area said several reports came in at about 1 p.m. north of Castle Cove near the Arizona border.

Park Rangers arrived on scene and discovered the body just before 2 p.m. Park pilots flew over for aerial pictures to aid in the investigation.

Authorities say the man was 54 years old. An inflatable kayak was found nearby. The man was not found wearing a flotation device, but one was found on the kayak. 

The Mohave County Coroner's Office will determine the man's identity and cause of death.

The death remains under investigation.
