Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police have arrested a man that they say stole wheelchairs belong to two men in the Las Vegas valley with spina bifida.

The wheelchairs were stolen from Nathan Peitz and Sean Thomas. The two chairs are worth thousands of dollars but were stripped and sold for scrap for just a few dollars.

The men reported that the wheelchairs were stolen outside their home last week.

On Tuesday, Las Vegas police arrested Uber Flores, a husband and father who lives less than a mile from Nathan and Sean.

Flores told police he took the chair because he needed the money and thought that they were trash. He is claiming that they were sitting next to the mailbox in front of the house.

According to police, Flores took the wheelchair to a scrap yard on Nellis Boulevard. The scrap yard was already on the look out for the stolen chairs.
