Sheriff: Storey County inmate locks up deputy, flees
VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities are looking for a 38-year-old inmate who escaped from the Storey County jail early the morning he was set to be sentenced on a sexual assault charge.
Sheriff's officials say Jeremy James Morales hid in the shadows of his Virginia City cell, then locked a deputy inside when the deputy went to check it. He escaped about 1:30 a.m. Monday.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Morales was last seen wearing striped jail clothes with the words "Storey County Inmate" stenciled on the back.
He's described as 5 feet 11 inches tall and 220 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Sheriff's officials say Morales had pleaded guilty to felony sexual assault of a child. Authorities say he was unarmed at the time of his escape but is considered dangerous.
