Agencies collect prescription drugs for safe disposal
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Law enforcement agencies around the Valley and across the state teamed up Saturday to collect expired, unwanted and unused prescription drugs for safe disposal.
One of the collection sites was held on the 6000 block of West Windmill.
Saturday was "National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day." People could drop off their unused prescription drugs, with no questions asked.
The effort was launched a few years ago to stem the abuse of prescription medications and prevent overdoses.
Nationally, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency said more than 1.5 million pounds (774 tons) of prescription drugs have been removed from circulation.
