Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A street in downtown Las Vegas is now officially renamed in honor of a former Las Vegas Metropolitan Department police officer and security guard who died in the line of duty.

Stanley Cooper was killed by a lone gunman at the Lloyd George Federal Courthouse in January, 2010.

Cooper worked at the courthouse since 1994.

He served 26 years with metro police before that.

The Las Vegas city council approved the change last week.

Chef Andre Rochat Place ran right behind the courthouse and will now be called Stanley W. Cooper Place.
