Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- If you want to be part of the creation of a new area code for Southern Nevada, now is your chance.

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada will meet tonight to further discuss introducing a second area code here in the valley and Southern Nevada.

A new area code means a lot of things. It means that Clark County has grown out of 702 and the county is running out of phone numbers to give out.

It also means, when .. and not if .. the new number is introduced, we will have to dial 10 digits for local calls.

If you currently have a 702 area code, that will not change. The new code will be given to new numbers only.

The meeting is tonight at 6 p.m. at the PUC office. The public is invited to give their input.

Thursday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.
