Driver turns himself in following fatal crash on 215 near Sahara
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Multiple vehicles were involved in a crash on the 215 near Sahara on Friday evening.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes of 215 just before 7 p.m.
According to NHP, a Chevy Tahoe slammed into the back of a Mini Cooper.
Officials said traffic was slowed due to an event at the Red Rock Hotel and Casino at the time of the crash.
They said the driver of the Chevy Tahoe, Thomas Rossangel of Las Vegas, was driving at a high rate of speed as he approached traffic. That caused a chain reaction, in which a total of at least five vehicles were hit.
Rossangel fled the scene but turned himself in early Saturday morning.
The driver of the Mini Cooper was transported to UMC Trauma where he was pronounced dead.
One woman, the passenger in the Mini Cooper, was transported to UMC with critical injuries. Another man in a Honda Civic was treated and released.
Troopers are working to determine the cause of the crash and who was at fault.
