Driver booked for drunk driving after hitting Metro squad car

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Two Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers and two civilians were taken to the hospital Friday morning after a collision near Lake Mead and Nellis Boulevards.

The accident happened at about 12:50 a.m.

According to LVMPD, the officers were in the process of conducting a traffic stop on Lake Mead.

The first officer had pulled over a car and another officer arrived on scene to provide assistance.

Metro said 25-year-old Daniel Esparza then struck the rear of the backup officer's vehicle. The impact caused both patrol vehicles to collide into one another.

The officers were transported to UMC, treated and released. The driver involved in the traffic stop was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Esparza was also transported to UMC, treated and released. He was later transported to the Clark County Detention Center, where he was booked for DUI: Alcohol with substantial bodily harm.
