State board OKs pared down capital improvements
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- The state Public Works Board has approved a pared down capital improvement project wish list for Nevada state agencies.
The Nevada Appeal reports the list of 83 projects endorsed Tuesday consists primarily of essential maintenance work.
Officials say the challenge will be finding enough money in the upcoming two-year budget to cover the $81.4 million state share of the costs.
Projects include expanding the scope of a proposed hotel college at University of Nevada, Las Vegas so design and planning can be finished in the next two years, allowing construction to begin in the following biennium if money is available.
Also included is $692,000 for a new execution chamber at Ely State Prison to replace the old death chamber at the now-closed Nevada State Prison in Carson City.
