Families file lawsuits against Las Vegas police
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Family members of two men who died during confrontations with Las Vegas police have filed federal lawsuits accusing the department and officers of using excessive force and negligence.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports attorney Peter Goldstein is representing the families of Anthony Jones and Anthony Brenes in the lawsuits filed Tuesday.
Jones died in December 2010 after running from police during a traffic stop. Officers stunned the 44-year-old with a Taser several times.
Brenes, 32, died after being shot by police in November 2010. Police say he approached officers with a stick in his hand and officers were unable to subdue him with a stun gun or bean bag shotgun.
The Clark County district attorney's office has ruled that officers in both cases are clear of any criminal wrongdoing.
