Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The police officers who nabbed the suspect in one of the biggest casino robberies in Las Vegas history were recognized Monday in a special ceremony.

Two Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detectives received the Crime Stoppers 'Exceptional Service Award.'

Detectives Jason Nelson and Sam Smith were behind the arrest of Anthony Carleo.

Carleo was sentenced to ten years in prison for robbing the Suncoast poker room and the Bellagio back in December 2010.

In both robberies, investigators said Carleo walked in with a gun wearing a full-faced motorcycle helmet.

According to police, he got away with nearly $20,000 worth of chips at the Suncoast and nearly $1.5 million worth of chips from a craps table at The Bellagio.

Thanks to the research of Nelson and Smith, the suspect was caught before more robberies were committed.

The ceremony honoring Detectives Nelson and Smith was held at Red Rock hotel-casino.

Station Casinos donated $5,000 to Crime Stoppers to honor the work of the detectives.
