First human case of West Nile virus reported in Clark County
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The first human case of West Nile virus this year has been reported in Clark County.
According to the Southern Nevada Health District, the victim is a 75-year-old woman. She has been diagnosed with the more serious neuroinvasive form of the illness and is hospitalized.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced the West Nile virus infections and illness rates are on record pace this year with more than 2.600 cases and 118 deaths reported through Sept. 11.
SNHD reported that a mosquito with the virus had been found in the 89107 zip code of the Las Vegas valley in August.
