Driver charged with drunken driving after crash kills 4
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Four people are dead, eight people are in the hospital and a man is being charged with felony DUI resulting in death after a car plowed into a bus stop near the intersection of Spring Mountain Road and Decatur Boulevard this morning.
A Las Vegas police officer at a nearby gas station witnessed the crash. The police officer says that the car was traveling east on Spring Mountain at a high rate of speed when it bottomed out at the intersection, became airborne, and hit the bus stop.
The injured people were transported to University Medical Center and Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center.
A doctor at UMC tells Action News that one person is in serious condition, one is in fair condition, and two are in good condition.
A spokesperson for Sunrise says four people were received at their facility.
One male is in good condition; one male is in critical; and two women are in critical at Sunrise. All of the patients are adults but their ages were not available.
It was suspected that the driver of the car had been drinking and Las Vegas police have confirmed that a man is in custody and is being charged with a felony DUI resulting in death. He is also injured and one of the people in the hospital.
It is not known if those that were killed were in the car or at the bus stop.
All directions of Spring Mountain and Decatur are closed and probably will be for several hours. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
