No damage reported after 3.9 earthquake in Nevada
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Sheriff's officials and a mine operator in northern Nevada are reporting no damage or injuries after a 3.9 magnitude earthquake overnight near a small gold mining town northeast of Winnemucca.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports the temblor struck just before 11 p.m. Monday, and was centered 11 miles northwest of Getchell.
Getchell is in Humboldt County, about 210 miles east of Reno. It is best known for a nearby Barrick Gold Corp. mine.
Barrick Gold of North America spokesman Louis Schack in Salt Lake City says several people noticed the temblor in and around Winnemucca.
But he says it didn't affect the Turquoise Ridge Mine.
Humboldt County sheriff's officials say they received no calls about the quake.
