9/11 events in Clark County

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The following is a list of events in the Las Vegas valley to honor those that lost their lives and their families on 9/11:

Memorial event at Palo Verde High School
WHEN: 8:30 a.m. today
The memorial event has been organized in remembrance of the tragic events of September 11 and to honor a Palo Verde High School teacher who passed away as a result of the attacks that took place that day. Students, teachers and friends of Barbara Edwards will gather at the soccer field's flag pole to remember.

Memorial dedication at Las Vegas Elks Lodge No. 1
WHEN: 10 a.m. today
WHERE: Elks Lodge, 4100 W. Charleston Blvd.
Las Vegas Elks Lodge No. 1468 will dedicate an 8-by-12-foot engraved Veterans Memorial boulder today. Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony will be on hand to dedicate the memorial to "serve as a reminder about the valiant men and women who have served this country."

Clark County tribute to 9/11
WHEN: 10 a.m. today
WHERE: Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway
Clark County will host a ceremony commemorating the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the amphitheater at the County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. Clark County and County Fire Department officials will be joined by representatives from the City of Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and other local agencies for the community's official 9/11 tribute. Clark County, the city and Metro take turns hosting the ceremony each year.

The ceremony is open to the public and will be aired live on Clark County Television (CCTV)

Special assembly at Coral Academy of Science
WHEN: 1 p.m. today
WHERE: Coral Academy of Science, 8185 Tamarus St.
Coral Academy will host an assembly to honor Henderson police and fire departments and the men and women who risk their lives each day to serve the community. Lieutenant Eric Denison, Acting Captain
of the West Area Command, and Battalion Chief Michael Gibson will be in attendance to share their stories and discuss the value and meaning of service. Also joining in the assembly is Ms. Sasha Rincon, a Las Vegas resident, whose mother is a survivor of the September 11th disaster. Additional speakers are a representative from Congressman Dean Heller’s Office
and  Army Sergeant  Richard Williams of 911 Unity whose commitment is not only to the memory of those who have fallen, and those still falling, but also to the survivors and the wounded.

Reception/fundraiser at UNLV
WHEN: 5:30 to 9 p.m. today
WHERE: Student Union Ballroom, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
The UNLV Young Democrats are hosting a non-partisan reception and fundraiser to remember the victims and heroes of 9/11 and to fundraise for the underfunded and understaffed North Las Vegas Fire Department. First respondents will participate in a roundtable discussion to share their experience from that fateful day. Musical entertainment will include Avalon Landing and student talents. Multiple other student organizations will be fundraising throughout Monday and Tuesday for the NLV FD and the student organization that raises the most funds will receive recognition at the end of the event.

Free admission to Madame Tussauds
WHEN: Sept. 11
Madame Tussauds Las Vegas is offering active firefighters, EMT, military and police officers free admission to the attraction on Tuesday, Sept. 11 as a special thank you for all that they do.  Brave men and women from all over the country are encouraged to show proof of employment at the box office to receive one complimentary Adult General Admission ticket.

$5 admission to San Gennaro for veterans, emergency personnel
WHEN: Today
Where: San Gennaro Feast, Silverton hotel-casino
Opening night for the 33rd Annual San Gennaro Feast falls on Sept. 11 and affords festival president Anthony Palisamo the opportunity to send out a big “thank you” and honor all our military, veterans, firemen, policemen, FBI, Secret Service and Homeland Security with a $5 admission with ID.

In addition, Las Vegas entertainment director and host Tony Sacca, has arranged a special “Las Vegas Sings For America” program starring Sacca and The Saccettes,
Dick Contino, Society of Seven with American Idol Star Jasmine Trias, Clint Holmes, Denise Clemente – Grand Lady, John Garafalo – tribute to Lanza / Boccelli, Amanda Kaiser as Bette Midler, Robin Vincent, Aaron Caruso – tribute to Caruso, Philly Cuzz – sounds of Doo-Wop, Tony Cerbo, all backed by the Michael T Band, and the Patty Janura Band.  Entertainment will run from 4 p.m. until closing at 11 p.m.

Gov. Brian Sandoval is announcing his pledge through the I Will campaign today. He is encourage Nevada residents to remember 9/11 by making similar pledges. More info here.
