Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The death of an Australian Football League player this past weekend on the Las Vegas Strip is still a mystery.
A group of 11 players left Australia on Saturday for a visit to Las Vegas.
One of those players -- 22-year-old John McCarthy -- was found on the Flamingo's south driveway at about 5:40 a.m. Sunday. According to other reports, he was not with his teammates when he fell.
The team has since returned to Australia.
Las Vegas police and the Clark County coroner are still trying to figure out how McCarthy ended up on the ground outside of the hotel-casino.
Emergency responders took McCarthy to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to his teams' website, they were informed by U.S. authorities in Las Vegas that McCarthy had died as a result of injuries sustained in a fall from a building.
However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has not confirmed that.
McCarthy played for Port Adelaide Australian Football Club in 2012.
