Sports fans pack Las Vegas sportsbooks during NFL games
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Sunday was the first day of regular season play for many NFL teams and that meant, big business for Las Vegas.
With money in hand and a team on their mind, it was easy to see by the long lines at sportsbooks across the Valley that folks are ready for some football.
Action News stopped by the Wynn Sunday to speak with sportsbook veteran Johnny Avello, who said no sport brings in the big bucks like the NFL.
Avello estimates there is about $30 billion wagered on sporting events in the Silver State each year. He said about half of that is spent on NFL games.
He believes more people wager on football than any other sports because it appeals to the masses.
Fan excitement was evident not only on the Strip, but in Henderson as well. Action News stopped by Sunset Station, where locals were also placing bets.
