Thousands support diversity at Gay PRIDE Parade
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Proud and prideful, creative and colorful, the gay community made Las Vegas it's stage for the night.
Divas in Drag entertained the crowds lining 4th Street with a little Liza and Dolly.
The community is feeling the love from the thousands who came to support the 14th annual Gay Pride Parade.
"We're just looking for non-judgemental people to treat us the way we want to be treated," parade attendee Nicholas Peirsall said. The trio that treats gays like royalty, the Queens of Comedy Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin and Margaret Cho kicked off this year's parade. The parade is a celebration of diversity and a call for acceptance, but for many it's just a chance to dress in glitz and glam. "You only can do this once, the gay pride parade and Halloween," Nancy Rivera said. "I've still got another month until Halloween." 75 floats paraded through downtown as party-goers danced down the streets. Organizers said this is one of the city's largest pride parades with a crowd estimated at 50,000 people. "I think it's what downtown needs," Michael Dealvarado said. "Downtown has been neglected for many years and I think it's going to put some spark back into the city." Spark and sparkle, because when it comes to pride the gay community knows how to show it.
