First lady gives emotional speech at Democratic National Convention
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- President Obama will land in Charlotte, North Carolina today.
The Democratic National Convention is happening right now.
The First Lady is already there. She was the headliner last night at the convention.
During the 2008 campaign, Democrats began calling Michelle Obama "The Closer." They are hoping she can continue to play that role in this election.
The president is counting on high turnout from women in November but a new poll shows more women disapprove of the president than approve. His approval rate is down eleven points since April.
So, the First Lady gave an emotional speech last night, trying to remind voters why she loves him and why we should trust him. She says that he stands behind working families.
Democrats are also trying to court Latino voters.
Last night, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro took the stage and told the story of his immigrant family, saying the American dream is still possible if we reelect Obama as president.
