Pedestrian killed while crossing outside of crosswalk
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man is dead after he was hit by the driver of a sports utility vehicle Saturday night.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a 44-year-old man was crossing the street, outside of a crosswalk, on Tropicana Avenue just west of Rainbow Boulevard.
Witnesses told Metro the vehicle involved, a Ford Explorer driven by an 18-year-old female from Henderson, was traveling east on Tropicana approaching Rainbow when it struck the male pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene for investigation.
The pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
This accident is the 79th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2012 and it remains under investigation.
