Video prompts child abuse charge at Sparks day care
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) -- The 53-year-old owner of a child-care center in Sparks has been arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse after a parent emailed a video to social workers that police say depicts her battering a toddler at the center.
Carla Phillips has owned and operated Creative Kids since December 1998.
The Reno Gazette-Journal (http://on.rgj.com/QXe3hq ) reports she was released on $20,000 bail after her arrest on Monday.
Phillips is accused of hitting a 3-year-old boy in the back of the head twice and swatting his face. Police say in court documents in Sparks Justice Court she also is seen grabbing him by the hair and pulling his head back while yelling at him.
Investigators say the boy didn't have any known injuries.
Phillips told the newspaper she had no comment.
