School truancy major issue in Las Vegas and across country
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A recent study of 25 cities, including Las Vegas, sites truancy as a major issue among students.
A whopping seven million kids around the country miss at least a month of school every year.
The study was done by the non-profit Get Schooled, a foundation dedicated to increasing high school graduation rates.
This has long been an issue in the Clark County School District.
Las year, CCSD implemented the "Reclaim Your Future" plan to improve graduation rates.
Teams of CCSD staff and volunteers went door to door hoping to find thousands of high school seniors who did not show up up the second week of school.
There is no word yet it the school district will be taking the same approach this year but it might be worth it for those students to head to class.
The study says that kids who miss more than 10 days of school are 20 percent less likely to graduation and those some kids also have a 25% less chance of ever enrolling in college,
