Man's death in Las Vegas police custody ruled accident
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The in-custody death of a U.S. Army veteran from Guam two days after he struggled with Las Vegas police last month has been ruled an accident.
Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy said Tuesday that an autopsy showed 37-year-old Glenn Young Ybanez died of a heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy. A contributing factor was methamphetamine intoxication.
Las Vegas police say Ybanez was sought on out-of-state criminal warrant when he ran from police during a vehicle stop July 2 a few blocks west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Police say Ybanez was hospitalized after he became unconscious during his arrest.
Family members tell the Pacific Daily News on the Pacific Island of Guam that Ybanez was a former Army sergeant who served in Iraq before moving to Las Vegas in 2008.
