Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Back to school is off to a smooth start for many Clark County students, but for others like Eddie Hunter's son its been one bumpy road.

"He didn't want to take that bus this morning, he's like traumatized," Hunter said.

On Monday, Hunter said her 16-year old son's bus driver took him to the wrong bus stop. Dropped off far from his apartment complex, Hunter said her lost son tried to find his way home in the afternoon heat.

"He walked for two hours until he collapsed," Hunter said. "The ambulance and fire department called me."

After her son collapsed from heat exhaustion he was taken to Southern Hills Hospital where he was treated and released. Now his mother wants answers from the school district.

"There were some mix ups with bus schedules, and that was unacceptable," Clark County spokesperson, Amanda Fulkerson, said. "We're working with our transportation administrators to make sure it doesn't happen again."

The district is asking for parent's patience until the end of the week - by then it said the bus problems should be all clear.

"These kids were registered for school in April, so transportation has the whole summer to figure out what kid goes to what bus stop," parent Brittany Marlowe said.

It's a frustration for parents taking on the responsibility to make sure their kids get home safe.

The district said 20 employees are staffing its call center through the weekend. Although parents said the lines are jammed, the district encourages parents to keep trying to get those transportation questions answered.
