Nevada man charged after shot self in rear at theater
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) -- A criminal charge has been filed against the 56-year-old Sparks man who accidentally shot himself in the buttocks inside a movie theater earlier this month.
Police say Fernando Santana Eagleheart had a legal permit to carry the concealed weapon when he dropped it and it went off at the downtown Sparks theater on Aug. 14
But a criminal complaint filed last week in Sparks Municipal Court charges him with discharge of a firearm on a public street or "place of public resort." The misdemeanor offense is punishable by up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine or both.
Police told the Reno Gazette-Journal that Eagleheart apologized to the crowd and left the theater where about 30 people had been watching "The Bourne Legacy." No one else was hurt.
