Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A woman who survived a violent machete attack has suffered another major setback, this time in the form of a cancer diagnosis.
Maria del Carmen Gomez has spent the last five months in and out of hospitals after her ex-boyfriend allegedly ambushed her with an 18-inch blade severing her wrists and striking her in the head.
Having spent so much time in the hospital Gomez hasn't been able to work.
The Las Vegas community embraced Maria after the savage machete attack and now that she's been diagnosed with cancer, she's turning to the community once again.
“How are you going to make it a half a year without money, how are you going to support your own expenses?” wondered Gomez.
Maria hopes to get back on her feet soon so she can get back to work and continue speaking out against domestic violence.
An account has been set up to help Maria with expenses. If you would like to donate, go to any Wells Fargo Bank and reference account number 319-206-1962.
