Amid new anti-peddler rule, a cleaner Strip
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A new rule targeting unlicensed vendors selling water or other small items on Las Vegas Strip sidewalks is in full swing a month after it was approved.
Undercover Clark County business license agents say they've issued 10 citations and 72 warnings as of last week. Another 30 people were arrested by agents and police in a sweep recently.
The anti-peddler ordinance is one of several adopted as a way to beautify the congested tourist corridor.
One of the new rules bans pets, which panhandlers sometimes use to gain sympathy, and another one requires handbillers to clean up their ads when people drop them nearby.
County Commissioner Steve Sisolak tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal he's noticed a significant drop in the number of sidewalk vendors since the rule kicked in.
