Senator Reid voices support for airport name change
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- There's been a lot of talk about changing the name of McCarran International Airport to Las Vegas International Airport.
The airport is currently named after a former senator, Pat McCarran.
When Senator Harry Reid was asked about it Friday, he had some strong remarks.
"Pat McCarran was one of the most anti-semetic -- some of you might know my wife is Jewish -- the most anti-black, one of the most prejudice people that's probably ever served in the Senate," Reid said. "It's not a decision I'm going to make, but if you ask me to give you my opinion: I don't think his name should be on anything."
The Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority discussed the name change in a recent meeting, but the decision isn't up to them either.
County Commissioners have the final say. So far, there has been no word on when they plan to address the issue.
