Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The search continues for a 17-year-old boy who was swept away in a Henderson wash on Wednesday.

Authorities resumed the search early Thursday morning for William Mootz, who police say was lost in the rapids at the Pittman Wash in Henderson.

The incident happened at about 11:40 a.m. when Mootz was with friends at the wash near Stephanie Street and Sunset Road.

Mootz fell in and was quickly swept away, disappearing into the current.

Mootz's family says their son is an avid swimmer but the strength of the current and dept of the water in the wash made it incredibly dangerous for anyone.

Family and friends searched the wash last night by flashlight after the rescue crews called off the search.

The teen is entering his senior year at Green Valley High School.
