Fires wreak havoc on Nevada antelope hunter access
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Nevada wildlife officials say antelope hunters who drew tags in three prime areas ravaged by fires can return their tags and retain their bonus points for next year.
But the tags must be returned in person to a Nevada Department of Wildlife office, no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Pronghorn antelope rifle season opens Wednesday.
Wildlife officials say fires are limiting access to three hunting areas in northern Nevada -- areas 031, 015 and 033. They are located in northern Washoe and Humboldt counties.
The massive Holloway fire is now contained but scorched more than 450,000 acres in northern Nevada and southern Oregon, and access to the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge is limited.
Hunters who return tags won't get their money back, but they can keep their bonus points.
