Woman walking dog finds dead body
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- "I'm kind of scared a little bit," Luibeth Cole said. "I'm going to be more careful."
Cole walks her Dalmatian mix around her Northeast Las Vegas neighborhood, but she's cautious.
Las Vegas Police said a dead body was found near Bonanza and Los Feliz Street, that's where Cole walks.
"It's not safe anywhere, but we thought that this was a nice area and things wouldn't happen here," Cole said.
Police said another woman walking the neighborhood discovered the body. Police are calling the death suspicious.
"They said that a crime had been committed, but they couldn't give me any details and I want to know what's going on because it's my neighborhood," resident Randy Cole said.
The neighborhood sits right up against the mountainside. Neighbors said the rocky area has become a popular dumping spot for trash and debris.
In September 2009, police found another dead body in the same desert area. On Wednesday, a domestic violence dispute lead to a swat standoff with a man holed up inside a home.
"It's a very quiet neighborhood very peaceful up here," resident Peter Alpert said. "To have this kind of activity is not what we bought the home for."
Police said they've seen more murders in this part of town this year compared to last and calls for help are up.
For Cole, that's all the more reason to be alert while she walks.
