Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan spent Tuesday afternoon and evening in Las Vegas, speaking at a rally inside a local high school before heading to a private fundraiser.

Ryan spoke to a packed house at Palo Verde High School on the west side of the Valley,

The Wisconsin congressman talked about the housing market, job creation, and debt - issues that hit home for Nevadans.

"It is our duty to save the American dream for our children and get this debt and this deficit under control and stop spending money we don't have," Ryan said.

Ryan also talked about the importance of creating a strong middle class to the nation's economic recovery.

Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney announced Paul Ryan as his running mate over the weekend, and Ryan emphasize the importance Nevada voters will play in November's election.

He hopes the hundreds of supporters who came out to Palo Verde's gym on Tuesday afternoon will register to vote and hit the polls, supporting the Romney-Ryan ticket.

After the rally, Ryan headed to a private fundraiser at The Venetian hosted by Sheldon Adelson. Adelson has been a major financial supporter of Mitt Romney's campaign.
