Visitors authority discussing airport name change
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will be discussing a possible name change for McCarran International Airport tomorrow.
The airport is named after U.S. Senator pat McCarran. He served Nevada from 1933 to 1954.
Few people outside Nevada know the name so there has been a push to rename the airport to "Las Vegas International Airport."
Supporters say that the name change will bring more recognition to the state.
The meeting on Tuesday is just a fact finding effort. Only the Clark County Commission can actually change the name of the airport.
Reno went through this about 18 years ago. There airport there used to be named after Sen. Howard Cannon. It was renamed the Reno-Tahoe International Airport in 1994.
