Saturday, U.S. Senate candidate Shelley Berkley issued the following statement on Rep. Paul Ryan as the vice-presidential candidate:

 

"No one is happier than Senator Dean Heller, one of Rep. Paul Ryan's strongest supporters, who said he was 'proud' to vote twice for the Ryan budget plan that essentially ends Medicare by turning it over to private insurance companies. Politicians like Paul Ryan and Dean Heller are so out of touch with Nevada that they would dismantle the Medicare program that seniors rely on, protect tax breaks for Wall Street corporations that ship jobs overseas and defend taxpayer giveaways to Big Oil companies.  I am running for U.S. Senate because hardworking Nevada families need a Senator who will fight for them. While Dean Heller, Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney will continue to fight for the big guys, I will continue to stand with President Barack Obama in fighting for middle-class priorities like creating good paying jobs and protecting Medicare and Social Security."
