Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- One of the classroom decorations up for sale at the Sharing is Caring consigment store is a sign that says 'Teachers are angels in disguise.' It certainly seems that way during back-to-school season.

"I don't think people realize how much money teachers are spending of their own," Katie Schafer said. "Every year, you're spending.  You have to. You need the supplies for the kids. They need pencils. You need these things."

Schafer had accumulated a lot of classroom items that she didn't need anymore, when she decided to teach preschool from her home.

"I kept thinking, what am i going to do with it?" She said. "I didn't want to give it all away, because I spent so much money."

That's how the idea of a teacher consigment came about.

"It's a great opportunity, especially if a teacher is changing grade levels or moving out of the state to pursue other opportunities," Schafer said. "This is a way to make sure materials don't go to waste by others."

It's also a great way for teachers to save money. Some books are sold for just a dollar or two.

The sale continues Saturday, and all items left on Sunday will be discounted. To learn more, click here.
