Badger dodges dart, then caged inside Nevada store
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A badger wandered into a bottled water store in northern Nevada, dodged a tranquilizer dart and held authorities at bay for about an hour before the teeth-baring critter was lured into a cage with cat food.
Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy says the badger apparently entered an open door at the Fresca Waterstore in a neighborhood near Sparks High School about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The store was emptied and no one was hurt during the standoff with a game warden and local animal control officers.
Healy says badgers are more common in Nevada than people think but it's the first time he recalls having to capture one in his 27 years at the agency.
The animal later was released into the wild on Peavine Mountain north of Reno.
