New early lung cancer detection program available for NTS workers
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A new early lung cancer detection program for former employees at the Nevada Test Site is now available.
The program was introduced at an event Wednesday at the Atomic Testing Museum.
The early detection program features a medical screening technique proven to reduce mortality in those who are at an elevated risk for lung cancer.
The new program features a low-dose CT scan versus a traditional x-ray.
The program will be offered to selected Department of Energy workers from the NTS.
The Early Lung Cancer Detection Program (ELCD) is part of the Worker Health Protection Program, a medical screening program for DOE workers. It is conducted independently of the DOE and provides medical information about occupational diseases to workers and their physicians.
