New retail experience at Tivoli Village offers hope of improving economy
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV ) -- Many local businesses were hit hard by the our struggling economy. Tivoli Village is no exception. But things seem to be improving for the outdoor shopping center at Rampart and Summerlin Parkway.
The Market LV is a new retail space at Tivoli. It includes a varied collection of small, independent boutiques under one roof.
"It's very entertaining for me," says shopper, Tracy Newton. "I can spend hours here."
That's what the owners of The Market LV --- Andrea and Russell Young -- are banking on. They've already been successful with this idea in Orange County, California. Their new project at Tivoli is based on their already-popular "OC Mix Mart."
The Young's goal is to give local entrepreneurs the chance to work side-by-side, rather than deal with the expense of operating a stand-alone business.
"We want these smaller companies to develop a big say in the community," Andrea says.
"The great thing about what we do, is that you are not on your own," Russell adds.
That was the draw for Arlene and Victor Bordinhao, who opened B Sweet Candy Boutique at The Market LV.
"They built the shell and all we have to do is bring our ideas and products in, which is fantastic," Arlene says. "Opening our own specialty candy story like this is truly what we've dreamed about for a very long time. There is a great support system here. We're just so excited to make it come alive."
It's a unique opportunity that many believe serves as proof that there's new life in our local economy.
"I think we've hit rock bottom, and now the potential for new businesses to open is phenomenal, especially in a place like this," Arlene says.
"This is very inspiring to see this market open," Newton adds. "Hopefully, it will open up opportunities for employment as well."
The Young's say as The Market LV grows, there will be more job opportunities.
By next month, the space is expected to be full. A wine and piano bar, fresh food offerings, and a few more boutiques are still set to open there.
The official grand opening of the property is set for Sept. 15.
