Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A woman was rescued Monday morning after her car careened into a flood channel in the downtown Las Vegas area.

Firefighters were called to the scene near Symphony Park Avenue just of Interstate 15 at about 9:45 a.m.

When they arrived, they discovered the car had plummeted about 40 feet into a flood channel.

Investigators say somehow she lost control of her car, slid under the fence and ended up in the ditch. It's not clear what time the incident happened or how long the woman was trapped in the channel.

Rescuers were able to reach the woman. They say she was able to talk, but couldn't really explain what happened. Authorities say she may have lost consciousness during the ordeal. She was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
