Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Soccer fans in the Valley got a first hand glimpse of some of the top players in the world. Spanish league champion Real Madrid took on Mexico's Santos Laguna at Sam Boyd Stadium Sunday night.

The champions were again Real Madrid as they beat Santos 2-1.

In Sunday night's game, former Las Vegas High School soccer player Herculez Gomez made an appearance as he wore the green jerseys for the Mexican team. He is the first soccer player from the Silver State to play in the World Cup back in 2010.

More than 29,000 fans showed up wearing their favorite teams jersey's. So many Las Vegans hope the high number of attendance will convince the community that Las Vegas is ready for an MLS team.

Real Madrid now heads to the east to play games in New York and Philadelphia. Sunday night's match is the largest single soccer event held at Sam Boyd Stadium.
