Man fatally shot by FBI agent identified
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The FBI has identified the man fatally shot by an agent on Thursday outside of a Las Vegas casino.
The man was 35-year-old Jerome Burchell, who had a warrant out for a recent robbery and was a person of interest in a homicide last week.
A Criminal Apprehension Team made up of police and FBI agents zeroed in on Burchell after conducting surveillance near the Arizona Charlie's on Boulder Highway.
When they confronted Burchell, the FBI says he repeatedly ignored commands and showed a weapon. That's when an agent shot him.
Burchell was taken to a nearby hospital and underwent emergency surgery, but died later that night.
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department said Burchell was wanted for a recent robbery at a local fast food restaurant. He was also wanted for questioning after the July 22 homicide at an apartment complex on Decatur near Sahara.
The FBI said in a release that authorities from FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C. will conduct an investigation into the shooting.
Metro police are also investigating.
