Reno Navy vet killed in Colorado shooting to be hailed

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A 26-year-old Navy veteran who was among the Colorado movie theater shooting victims is scheduled to be remembered for his kind, giving nature.

Jonathan Blunk is set to receive a full military funeral Friday in Reno.

Blunk died after throwing himself in front of a friend and telling her to stay down when a gunman opened fire, killing 12 people and wounding 58.

He's a 2004 graduate of Reno's Hug High School who most recently lived in Aurora, Colo. Blunk, who served three tours in the Middle East from 2004 to 2009, planned to re-enlist in the Navy with a goal of becoming a Navy SEAL.

Among those expected to be in attendance were his estranged wife, Chantel, their 4-year-old daughter, Hailey, and 2-year-old son Maximus.
