Nevada contract post office closes amid investigation
LAMOILLE, Nev. (AP) -- A contract post office in Elko County has been shut down without notice amid an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service's Office of Inspector General into alleged misconduct.
Lisa Emery of the inspector general's Las Vegas office was accompanied by officials from the nearby Elko and Spring Creek post offices when the Lamoille office was closed Thursday.
In a statement to KRNV-TV, the inspector general's office said it could not comment about the case because the investigation is ongoing.
Lamoille contract postmistress Marilyn Laney told the Elko Daily Free Press that Emery made vague and false accusations against her.
The office's closure is prompting more than 200 customers to get their mail at the Spring Creek station about 15 miles away until further notice.
