Nevada taxable sales up 10.4 percent in May
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Taxable sales in Nevada shot up 10.4 percent in May over the same month a year ago, with sales of vehicles and durable goods posting double-digit gains.
May marks the 23rd consecutive month of increased sales in a state hard hit by the Great Recession.
The report released Friday by the state Department of Taxation shows merchants sold $3.7 billion in goods during the month on which the state collected nearly $289 million in gross sales and use taxes. Revenue collections were up nearly 9 percent over May 2011 and 6.5 percent for 11 months of the fiscal year.
Around the state, sales in Clark County rose 10 percent in May, while Washoe County saw an increase of nearly 5 percent.
Fifteen of Nevada's 17 counties reported increased sales.
