Woman dies after double shooting in west Valley

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A 29-year-old woman is dead after a double shooting in a west Las Vegas neighborhood on Friday.

The shooting happened just before noon on Altamira Road, near Buffalo and Alta.

Police say a man shot her and her male friend while five young children were inside the home.

One of the children went to a neighbor's house to report the crime, and the neighbor alerted police.

The two victims were taken to University Medical Center to be treated for apparent gunshot wounds. The woman later died at the hospital. Her identity has not yet been released. 

Police are working to determine the motive for the shooting, and the relationship between those involved.

"At this time the relationship between the victim and the shooter is unknown," Metro spokesman Jose Hernandez said. 

Authorities launched a search for the gunman. 

The man who was shot is in stable condition at University Medical Center.
