Police were called to a neighborhood near Alta and Buffalo just before noon on Friday.

When authorities arrived, they discovered two victims suffering apparent gunshot wounds.

The gunman fled the scene. Both victims were taken to University Medical Center, where the woman later died.

Police spent Friday afternoon at the scene working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

A person of interest in the case later turned himself in to authorities in Arizona.

The connection between the gunman and the two victims was not immediately clear.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Police say a child alerted authorities after a shooting inside a home in a west Las Vegas neighborhood on Friday.
The shooting happened just before noon on Altamira Road, near Buffalo and Alta.
Authorities say the man shot the 29-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man while five young children were inside the home.
Both victims were taken to University Medical Center and police launched a search for the gunman.
The woman later died at University Medical Center. The man remains in stable condition.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
