Family using personal experience to give back to community
Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- A local family is using personal experience, to give back to others.
Guy and Nonna Russell have a son who is severely handicapped, after nearly drowning a few years ago.
Now, they're involved in the opening of a new urgent care center in Henderson. They took tragedy and turned it into a positive.
"We're just really, really excited to do this for the community," said Guy Russell.
A new Doctors Express Urgent Care center is opening Saturday, July 28.
"Every thing's done on site. We even have a pharmacy on site. So everything can be done right here. You don't have to come here and then see another specialist or something like that, unless that's called for medically," said Guy.
The goal is to provide a one-stop-shop for treating illnesses, trauma and sports injuries.
"The main goal is in and out. The, what we call a life cycle of a patient, should have 45 minutes to an hour. The nationwide standard for urgent care is two hours and 21 minutes," explained Guy.
The Russell's have dealt with those wait times first hand. Their son, Ryan, nearly drowned several years ago and requires 24-hour care.
They say Ryan received top notch trauma care, but they felt urgent care needed improvement.
"He is the reason why we did this. No doubt," said Guy.
So they decided to open the clinic, to celebrate the strides their son has made.
"It's love. I mean this whole business was built on love of one little buy, who was 7-months-old, who is now 4-years-old," said Nonna Russell.
Taking their son's experience and using it to help others. "Our community of Las Vegas is actually going to be able to reap the benefits because of Ryan," said Nonna.
The Doctors Express Urgent Care in Henderson is opening to the public this Saturday, July 28, with a community open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can meet the staff, tour the center and sign up for prizes.
The center is located at 655 South Green Valley Parkway, Suite 100, in Henderson and can be reached at (702) 930-5608.
The facility will then be open to patients everyday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
